On Monday, State Representative Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) presented a check for $1,000 to the Scales Mound High School Trap Team on behalf of the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus.

“The Scales Mound High School Trap Team is very appreciative of Rep. Chesney and the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus for the financial assistance,” said the founder of the Trap Team and assistant coach Linda Ziarko. “We will use the funds to purchase equipment that will enhance the Trap Team program for the students.”

The Trap Team provides student athletes with a supportive environment where shooting sports serve as a catalyst for teaching life lessons and skills that emphasize positive character traits and values. Students learn all the aspects of competitive trap shooting including shotgun safety, mental concentration, eye hand coordination, teamwork, responsibility, and sportsmanship.

“It was my honor to nominate the Scales Mound High School Trap Team for funding,” said Chesney. “I am delighted this deserving organization was selected to receive this grant.”

The Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus advocates for the state’s outdoor recreational programs. The bipartisan and bicameral group of Illinois legislators work together to raise private funds to be awarded to local organizations that provide access and resources to the public for outdoor recreational opportunities.
