State Representative and Sheriff join forces to combat drug abuse
According to U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, millions of Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, and the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from home medicine cabinets.
To combat the abuse and help residents properly and safely dispose of medications, State Representative Andrew Chesney and Stephenson County Sheriff David Snyders have joined forces to host a free drive-through Prescription Drug Drop-Off event. On Saturday, August 6 from 9:30 am-11:00 am residents can bring their unneeded and expired medications to Alliance Commodities – Pearl City Elevator, Inc. at 4306 W Galena Rd, Lena (just North of US 20 on Galena Road across from Rafters).
A FREE 3′ x 5′ Illinois-made American Flag will be given to the first ten (10) participants. Limit one per household.
Accepted Medications include: prescription medications, prescription ointments and patches as well as pet medications and vitamins. Items not accepted are needles or illegal drugs.
The prescription drug drop off is an outdoors drive-through event that allows residents to remain in their vehicles. Drivers should follow the marked lanes when entering and exiting the parking lot. Brochures on state programs will also be available.
