State Representative Andrew Chesney presented recently retired Lena Village President Denny Bergman with House Resolution 228, a resolution passed by the Illinois House honoring Bergman’s public service, on Wednesday, July 21 at Stewart Centre in Freeport.
“Denny has been such a good friend to me and to our region,” said Rep. Chesney. “Beyond serving 16 years as Village President of Lena, Denny was a past Fire Chief and a past President of the Stephenson County Fire Chief’s Association. His service to Lena began as a village trustee in 1979.”
Bergman was honored for his lifetime of public service by the Illinois House in passing HR 228 on April 21, 2021. The resolution notes Bergman’s service to the Village of Lena as well as his community service as a past Board Member of the Stephenson County American Red Cross, Past President of the Stephenson County Local Emergency Planning Committee, having served on the Stephenson County Jail Advisory Committee, the Lena-Winslow School District Facility Planning Committee, past member of the Lena Lion’s Club, Past President of the Lena-Winslow Sports Booster Club and as a Board Member of the Northwest Illinois Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
“It was never a second thought to serve my community through these roles,” said Bergman. “It’s just what you do when there’s a need, you pitch in and help out. I worked with great teams over the years in this work worth doing.”
