State Representative Andrew Chesney hosted his most recent Pizza & Politics event in East Dubuque with Mayor Kirk VanOstrand on the evening of July 30, 2019 at the historic Timmerman’s Supper Club overlooking the Upper Mississippi River Valley.
“During the Illinois General Assembly’s Summer Break, I felt it important to provide an opportunity for taxpayers to come out for an evening, receive an update on state issues and provide an opportunity for questions and answers about top state issues,” said Chesney, the first-term legislator serving the 89th House District in Northwest Illinois.
Over 50 area citizens attended to hear about what is going on in Springfield as well as ask questions and provide feedback. “I was honored to host this event and privileged to hear from so many local residents, even though many are quite upset at the direction our state is headed,” said Rep. Chesney.
Admission to the event was free and a number of local elected officials joined engaged voters in learning more about what is really going on in Springfield. Among the issues discussed: Progressive Income Tax, Minimum Wage Increase, State Budget & Capital Bill, Tax & Fee Increases, Firearms and Abortion. Chesney provided an update on actions taken in the Spring Session and provided equal time for questions from attendees.
